Certified Advanced Sommelier

The Wine Education Institute Advanced Sommelier Certification marries the professional foundation acquired through successful completion of the WSET Level 3 Wine or the Certified Wine Educator programs with the restaurant service skills of a traditional sommelier. Exam will cover wine list creation, substitutions and management; service standards for still and sparkling; food and wine pairing and service and storage protocols.The Wine Education Institute Certified Exam is NOT a requirement for the Advanced Sommelier Certification.

Certified Advanced Sommelier

The Wine Education Institute’s Certified Advanced Sommelier program is only available to successful graduates of the WSET Level 3 Wine, WSET Level 3 Wine & Spirits or the Society of Wine Educators Certified Wine Educator programs. If you have not completed either of these you will not be able to take the Certified Advanced Sommelier Exam. Please acquire proof of completion of the above programs before registering for the exam.

You will be required to submit a video of yourself showing both your driver's license or passport as well as exhibiting your ability to perform both formal still and formal sparkling bottle service.

You will be quizzed on general knowledge attained from WSET/CWE programs and their application to service. For example you should the proper substitution in style for a Priorat from the following, a) Cote des Beaune, b) Minervois, c) Willamette Pinot Noir, or d) Taurasi.

You will have 6 months from the purchase date of the program to submit all required documentation, videos and complete the online exam. Exam re-takes may be purchased 2 months after the previous exam date for $25.
